Dear parents and carers,
I hope this letter finds you well.
As you may be aware, there have been recent disturbances across the country which have caused concern and fear in many communities. While we are fortunate that Leicester has not been significantly impacted, we acknowledge that the situation may still be troubling for our students, parents, and the broader community.
When students return to school after the holidays, I will be addressing this situation with them directly. I will emphasise the importance of adhering to the values we hold dear at our school and within our families—kindness, honesty, respect, and responsibility. I will also highlight that we condemn any form of racism or intolerance in our society and that we stand firmly opposed to such behaviour.
I understand that the current situation could be frightening for our students, but I will encourage them to try not to be scared and to continue with their normal lives as much as possible. It is important that they feel proud of who they are and the communities they come from.
One of the challenges we face today is the spread of misinformation and disinformation, particularly on social media. I will stress to the students that they must be cautious about what they read online and refrain from sharing information that may not be true. Instead, they should seek out news from reputable sources.
Moreover, I will advise students to avoid getting involved in situations that could lead to unlawful or unacceptable behaviour. It is crucial that they support the police in their efforts to protect our communities and lead peaceful lives, influencing their friends to do the same.
I kindly ask for your support in reinforcing these messages with your children. They may wish to discuss what is happening in the country, and it is important that they feel comfortable doing so in a supportive environment.
