THE CURRICULUM AT MOAT

Aims, Values, and Purposes

Moat’s curriculum fulfils the college aim of being dynamic, engaging, innovative and inclusive.

In years 7 and 8 students follow a broad and balanced curriculum with the opportunity to try out all the design and technology areas and the modern languages options before having to choose subjects to study in more depth.

Years 7 and 8 students follow the full National Curriculum and study art and design, citizenship, design and technology, English, humanities (geography, history, RE), computing, mathematics, modern languages, music, personal development education, physical education and science.

In year 9,10 and 11 between the ages of 13 and 16 – two things change:

  • Option to specialise in four option subjects as well as studying the core curriculum of English, mathematics, science, PE, RE, PDP and computing.
  • All students work towards GCSE or equivalent qualifications at 16.

This means that students have to choose their subjects carefully, bearing in mind the type of assessment each subject has and what suits their learning style (some courses have lots of coursework, others have lots of practical work and some have exams only).
