The college admits new students in accordance with Leicester City Council Admissions Arrangements and Policy file_download46KB. The maximum planned admission number for Moat is 210.

The Key Stage 3 Vice Principal has responsibility for admissions (including mid term admissions). It is important to provide for the needs of all newcomers to the college and they are placed in teaching groups according to these needs.

The priority order for allocation of places for entry into Year 7 and for mid term entry will be:

  1. Children in the care of a local authority or who were previously in the care of a local authority;
  2. Children who are on the “list of children subject to child protection plans” and need to attend an alternative school to avoid the abuser. (Previously known as the Child Protection Register.)
  3. Children who live in the Catchment Area for the school at the time of application and admission.
  4. Children with a sibling (sister or brother) who is attending the same school in year groups 7, 8, 9 and 10 from the proposed time of entry. (Sibling includes: step, foster or half brother/sister living at the same address.)
  5. Children living in the area of a closed school whose parents name one of the linked schools to that area.
  6. Children of parents/carers fleeing “Domestic Violence”. (Subject to verification by a senior Social Worker or current City Council procedures for housing reallocation in cases of recognised domestic violence).
  7. Other children.


Parents/guardians wishing to apply for the admission of a child to the college during the course of the academic year may make an application in person or by telephone to the admissions department at the Leicester City Council Education Department, Marlborough House, Welford Road, Leicester, LE2 7AA. Once parents, guardians and carers have been informed by the Education Department that their child has been offered a place at Moat they are advised to contact the college to arrange an appointment to discuss a starting date and any problems relating to the child. The college is able to provide interpreters for this process.
