Homework

Homework should be challenging and consolidate learning, deepen understanding and prepare pupils for work to come.

Students should be given a reasonable amount of time in which to complete homework.

All homework tasks must be clearly labelled and identifiable in books.

Homework should be part of all lesson planning, it should be acknowledged and marked following the College Marking Policy and returned to the students as soon as possible.

Minimum total time per day, recommended for homework:

  • Year 7: 30 minutes
  • Year 8: 45 minutes
  • Year 9: 60 minutes
  • Year 10: 60 minutes
  • Year 11: 60 minutes

Homework timetable by subject

English

One homework per fortnight for Year 7, one per week for Years 8 and 9, two per week for Years 10 and 11

Mathematics

One homework per fortnight for Year 7, one per week for Years 8 and 9, two per week for Years 10 and 11

Science

One homework per fortnight for Year 7, one per week for Years 8 and 9, two per week for Years 10 and 11

Humanities/RE

One homework per fortnight for Years 7 and 8, one per week for years 9, 10 and 11

MFL

Three homeworks per fortnight for Years 7, 8, 9 and 10, five per fortnight for Year 11

ICT

One homework per fortnight for Years 7, 8 and 9, one per week for Years 10 and 11

Design/art/music

One homework per fortnight for Years 7 and 8

GCSE options

One homework per week

Students:

  • Write down instructions for the task and deadline date into their planner.
  • Ensure that homework is completed and handed in to meet the deadline.

Form tutors:

  • See that homework is being set and recorded in the Student Planner (weekly).
  • Check that the Student Planner is being signed by the parent/carer (weekly).
