Curriculum plan

The main ways that the department supports students:

In-class suport

Specialist teachers and learning support assistants work alongside classroom teachers to support students with special educational needs and disabilities.

Withdrawal groups

We offer smaller withdrawal groups with specialist teachers to teach English and Maths to students who need a different learning environment.

1:1 lessons

We can provide one to one sessions for students who need support in understanding social situations, or students who need intensive support with their learning.

Lunch club

We offer a lunchtime club for vulnerable students to play games, read books or do homework. This is staffed by Learning Support Assistants and teachers.

Social skills

We offer students help with forming friendships; including social skills based small group work.

Other agencies

We work in partnership with other agencies such as Psychology Services, Hearing Support and Visual Support teams, Autism team, Speech and Language support and the Virtual School. We also work with advisory teachers for the Roma, Gypsy and Traveller communities.

Working in partnership with parents

Moat works with our parents to ensure the best outcome for families of children with SEND. If you have any concerns, please contact the SENCO, Mrs Taswinder Heer-Smith on 0116 2625705.

Complaints

Arrangements made by the governing body relating to the treatment of complaints from parents of pupils with special educational needs concerning the provision made at the school.

If parents wish to complain:

Moat follows the Local Authority Complaints procedure. In the first instance please contact the college on: +44 (116) 262 5705

Provision mapping

We are developing our provision map to ensure our students get the support they need.

Access arrangements

Access Arrangements allow all our students with special needs, or a disability, to access examinations.

An access arrangement can be an adult to read and/or write for a student in an exam. A student may be given a longer time period in which to complete the exam. A specialist assessor will assess students to see if they qualify for an access arrangement.
